Which plastic is better, polypropylene or polyethylene?

Polypropylene is tougher and very chemical resistant but HDPE is exceptionally chemical resistant. One can have a poor PE if it is not high density and then PP wins. One big difference is the glass transition temperature of HDPE is 150 C and PP 260 C. This means the PP will hold a load better at higher temperatures. I would say PP wins for strength at temperature while PE wins for chemical resistance and low friction properties (nonstick). You have a easier (but not easy) time gluing PP and forget about PE. You should weld these plastics to assemble thyem.
